Radio Daze

MR C was recently in his High School Spring Play Radio Daze!

It's the 1940s and Americans are doing all they can to help the war effort, especially keeping a sharp eye out for spies! And what better place for a spy to lurk than a radio station. Never mind that everyone at the studio works on a melodramatic soap opera and they probably know even less than their loyal listeners! But with the seed of doubt planted, it seems as if everyone at the station looks highly suspicious, including the janitor who sweeps everywhere, two young male writers who aren't in the Army for lame reasons, three man-hungry actresses, and even the three elderly Swindle sisters who own the station. But one spy plot gets mixed up with another when two sisters get jobs to find out a little inside company information. Overheard rumors, mixed-up scripts, and leaked "secret information" combine with romance and laughter to make you stay tuned for a play that's a salute to the glorious "daze" of radio!

The Students did a Fabulous job!  So fun to watch and see them take ownership of their roles!

Here are a few pictures, hope you enjoy them!

KJ Track 2012

As I write this KJ has exactly two days till her last track meet for the year! We are so very proud of her and the Awesome Job she has done this season!  KJ has raced in the mile, 400, Sprint Medley, 1600 (Mile) Relay, and the 200 yd Dash.  She earned several ribbons/medals as well as a couple first place finishes.  Here are a few pictures from this season.

KJ Such a goofball!

I love her face in this photo! Such determination!

This school year has gone by in such a flash!  So hard to believe she only has one more year of middle school! My baby is growing up way faster than I would like!

Unexpected Treasure!

Today we had no school! (Yeah!)  Which means no work for me, and the Hubby is usually off on Fridays so we decided to make a day of it and explore some of this great state we are in.  Hubby and I early in the week both began looking for ideas and without the other knowing had looked into going to Hutchinson, Kansas (just an hour and a half away) to visit the Salt Mine Check out their website here____!  We spent two fun hours exploring and learning all about the underground salt mine!  It was great!  We went with the package that included a train ride and the dark ride as well as admission to the mine/museum.  So worth the cost!  I took way more photos that what you see here but I was afraid the page would take to long to load if I added more!  Who knew we had such a great treasure so close to home! We  enjoyed a nice big breakfast at home, (after sleeping in of course) and then headed to Hutchinson.

MR C & KJ Ready for the ride down!

The Hubby & I ready to take the trip 650 ft down!

This mine we toured was hasn't been active since the early 50's.  The miners left some things behind, Campbells soup can, Hersheys Wrapper, a calender, tons of cups, papers and misc.. trash! They even left an empty trash can!

They store movie reels, scripts, and even some props from Hollywood movies!

This mine car (see the above two photo's) was made in Findlay, Ohio (My hometown) and shipped to the mine taken apart and then put back together in the mine.  It was used to transport miners to different areas of the mine!
The car used to transport the crew and host when they were in the mine film an episode of Dirty Jobs.

KJ & MR C posing with a big block of salt!

We learned so much while we were there!  It was actually pretty interesting!  These signs with Salt Secrets were posted in several areas to tell you what you were looking at!

The above picture may look like a bad picture but all the dots you see are salt dust falling!  I kept tasting salt (every time I breathed in) and this is why!

After our tour and exploring we were hungry so we headed to a local favorite Bogey's for a late lunch.  They have more than 100 flavor combinations for milkshakes (i couldn't decide so I got a cone instead) as well as burgers, fries and more!

I Love my Family!

Photo Shoot!

Last Saturday MR C and KJ and I  headed out to take some photos for Christmas cards/presents for the family, I told them early in the week not to plan anything for that afternoon so we could have some time to do this.  It was cold, it was windy, we do live in Kansas so I am not sure why I am surprised by that.  Anyway they did great!  I on the other hand wasn't feel the best so after about an hour and a half we headed home! Here are a few of my favorites! Now all I have to do is decide which ones go in the Christmas cards!
